Previous Verse < Job 38 > Next Verse

Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, (ASV)

Snow and hail are stored in "treasuries" (storehouses), to be dropped on the world below through the "windows of Heaven" in the solid dome of the sky (more on this in the Jude 1:14 article). --Robert Stevens 12:16, 9 Nov 2005 (CST)

This entire chapter isn't literal. Look at Job 38:8-11, for example:

“Who kept the sea inside its boundaries as it burst from the womb, and as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness? For I locked it behind barred gates, limiting its shores. I said, ‘This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!’

God makes extensive use of imagery in this passage...unless you think the Hebrews didn't believe in beaches and thought there were literal gates by the ocean.
