There were no Hittites in this area in the supposed time of Abraham (Middle bronze age). The original Hittite kingdom centered in Anaatolia vanished in middle 12 century bce, but a group of city states in northern Syria, that had been part of the Hittite empire, retained the name "Hatti Land" until conquered by Assyria. Assyrian inscriptions after that apply this name for the entire east coast of the Meditteranean, and likewise with Babylonian inscriptions. SO "Hittite" might simply mean a native in this Syro-Palestinian area, especially when when used by a person such as Abraham from east of the Euphrates - assuming Abraham lived some time after around 800 bce. --FreezBee 11:50, 31 Jan 2006 (CST)
