The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz, and Timna, and Amalek. (ASV)

Pro

Eliphaz is the son of Esau (see 1 Chronicles 1:35), and here Timna and Amalek are sons of Eliphaz. But according to Genesis 36:12, Timna was Eliphaz' concubine, and Amalek was her son.

Con

This is an issue related to the translation of the Hebrew and how to translate correctly that which the author of Chronicles intended. The name, Timna, that appears in 1 Chronicles 1:36 is the feminine form and would not be understood by the reader to be a "son." It may be that the author of Chronicles presumes the prior knowledge of the reader of the genealogies in Genesis and inserts Timna to identify the concubine with the son, Amalek. In any case, the presence of the feminine, Timna, would lead the reader to read this as one name, Timna-Amalek, rather than two names, Timna and Amalek which would force the feminine Timna to be a masculine son and make no sense. PRO, then, is basically arguing that the translation is confusing which is a legitimate concern.
